I have been using outlook 2003 for more than a year with Bellsouth as my
mail. Today I downloaded the new messenger and Outlook Connector so that I
can syn hotmail into Outlook. When finished and restarted many times, I
still get a error message in Outlook when ever I try to compose, reply,
forward, etc. this is what is get "The messaging interface has returned an
unknown error".

I have tried to reinstall outlook twice and the repair option in the control
panle under add/remove programs.

How do I fix this without uninstalling all of MS office and reinstalling?

Does it work correctly in Outlook Safe Mode?
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /safe
(note the space in the command)

When exactly do you get the error? Directly when pressing New/Reply/Forward?
Do you use Word or Outlook as the email editor?
Does changing it make a difference?

First off, I temporarly fixed by creating a new profile in Mail under the
control panel and switching the default to the profile... this got my old
outlook back. I am still unable to get my hotmail account to work in outlook
via the outlook connector.

As to your question, It happens whenever I try to click on new, reply,
forward or "Tools, e-mail account" and probably other areas. Sometime the
erro will change and say that the registry is the problem and I need to
reinstall. I have tried to reinstall but nothing happens. I have ran the
outlook detect and repair without any success. I am currently using word as
my editor. I do not know how to open it in outlook safe mode.

At this point, I would like to know how to get outlook connector to work.
It seems to install correctly, my hotmail account opened up with all of the
folder and contacts and it received e-mail that was being sent. However,
just like my bellsouth account, I was unable to send, reply, new or forward
e-mail via hotmail in outlook.

I also noticed that outlook was not checking for mail. When I go to "Check
/ Receive", it would do nothing. I would click on "all accounts" and still
nothing. Typcially you would see at the bottom right hand part of the screen
the percetnage and if it was sending or receiving and how many was coming it.
It doesn't do it.

I would be just ahppy if someone could just confirm if outlook connector
does work in outlook 2003 and how to do it. I am also using Windows XP Home
edition, Version 5.1, service pack 3 (if that helps).

The Outlook Connector does work in that configuration.

The instructions for starting Outlook in Safe Mode were in my reply to you.
Where do you get stuck?

How many accounts do you have configured in total?
Also, did switching to Outlook as the email editor solved the issue? This is
an important troubleshooting step;
Tools-> Options-> tab Mail Format

As the issue is likely to be caused by an add-in that you have installed, it
explains why you are getting the same issues with a new mail profile.
