the messaging interface has returned an unknown error

when i want to arrange my inbox by clicking on "arrange by" at the top and i
select arrange by "from"
it then says

the messaging interface has returned an unknown error

if the problem persists restart outoolk

I searched google but the same message seems to be comming out of a
multitude of different causes

any ideas what I can do? I am doing a repair installation but
seeing what everyone else is saying on google that does not seem to help.
