The Old "Reminder Will Not Appear" Issue

I've had the issue in the past where I setup, for example, a task with a
reminder. If I'm currently looking at one of the folders in my PST file, I
get the error "The reminder will not appear because the item is not in your
Calendar or Tasks folder". I've gotten into the habit of making sure I'm
looking at my Inbox on the default store when I setup anything that needs a
reminder. However, yesterday I setup a task (without a reminder) and
happened to be in a folder in my PST file at the time. I just realized that
the task is not in my main task list, i.e. the one in the default store. Its
in the PST tasks, which I never use. Now I'm wondering if there is another
way to skin this old cat without using an add-in (as cool and good as it may
be).

I have to use a PST file due to the limitations of space each of us are
allowed on our Exchange server. I have my account setup to deliver mail to
the default Inbox, and about 30+ rules to move certain emails to folders in
my PST file. One of the problems arises when I need to do a followup on an
email that is already in a PST folder. I have to first move it back to the
default Inbox, then set the followup with a reminder, and leave it in the
Inbox until the followup is complete, then manually move it back to the PST
folder.

My question is - Will the reminders work if I setup the mail delivery
location as the Inbox in my PST folder? In other words, if I point the
"Deliver new email to the following location" setting to my PST folder, and
completely bypass the default store, will reminders work from there? Since
the folders in the PST file would then be my "default" folders, would
reminders work from there? What issues would I run into if I completely
bypass the default store?

if you change delivery from the exchange store to the pst, reminders in the
default folders in the pst will fire, but it breaks calendaring features
with your co-workers and OWA and is not recommended. either use tasks in the
main folder to set reminders on messages in other folders (drag message to
task folder to create a new task), use the reminder addin at slovaktech.com.

Outlook 2007 will fire reminders in any folder.
