the open xml file macintosch cannot be opened

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel Hi
I am working a word document saved as .docx and i saved it yesterday and today when I open it here is the message :

the open xml file macintosch cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents, unspecified errors, location : 2
when I press OK, the second message appears : word found unreadable contents in "name of the doc.docx" Do you want to recover the contents of the document ? if you trust the source, click yes.
When I click yes, the document opens but I ve got only the beginning of the document (first page) and as soon as I ve got a comment in the comment, a small part of my file (one page) went in the comment box and the rest is not there anymore.

The document is a word file in which I tracked the changes I am performing and another person is doing

Hi Sophie:

No, sorry, nobody can help you -- that document is lost. The document has
suffered damage to the internal structure, and Word can't read it.

The damage was probably caused by tracking changes to the edits. If you ask
the originator to open their file and remove all the tracked changes and
comments, you will probably save the file.

But the one you have now has gone beyond the point of no return: throw it
away and roll back to your backup.

Hi Sophie

May be not all is lost. I had the same problem today and after reading the replies here almost thought several weeks of work were gone forever. But I could open and read the file in the Apple Pages.app (option-click on the file icon -> open with -> Pages). You can get a Pages.app trial version here (it's part of Apple iWork):

I know this is probably way too late for your particular corrupted file, seeing that the original post is more than a year old, but it might help other people.

Most likely this will not work with all corrupted .docx files, bit it did work with mine.

Before this incident today, I thought Word got out of its old and nasty habit to corrupt files and destroy months and months of work on papers/theses/etc. etc.

Boy was I wrong.
