The operation failed

Outlook 2002:
Pushing Send/Receive tools button results in the informative message "The
operation failed"
F9 (Send and Receive All) results in the same.
Tools/SendReceive/All Accounts results in nothing
Tools/SendReceive/(my default account) results in sending/reading ok.

I have only one account. Any suggestions on how to fix the problem (think I
cannot set up for automatic, cyclic sending/receiving either) ?
