The operation failed

Hi,

I have Office XP and I can't send mail nor access my "Send/Receive..." in
the Options. Every time I click on the "Send/Receive" button I get an error
message stating "The operation failed."

Everything was working fine this morning until I installed Office 2003. I
didn't activate it, but I noticed that it wouldn't connect to my SMTP
server. I thought it was a restriction to not activating the program so I
reverted back to Office XP. When I tried to send the same message - I got
that error.

I even did a "detect and repair", but that didn't change anything. Thanks
for any help.

This is so funny, but I was writing this response for someone else and
realized that he had a totally different message. So I'm copying and
pasting here for future reference:

I was having the exact same problem this morning. I believe this is the
link to Microsoft's Knowledgebase for the answer.

Basically it looks like you would need to create a new Mail profile.
Whatever the glitch is - it seems irreversible. I created a new profile
(which sucks because i have to do all my customizing again), but it worked
after that.

The instructions for creating a new profile is in the link above.
