The PPT Converter for 2007

Pastor Mike

I have installed PPT 2007 on one computer but my others run PPT 2003...I
installed the converter when prompted but nothing seemed to happen. And when
I try to open a 2007 PPT file in PPT 2003 it just prompts me to download the
converter again. Any suggestions or is anyone else experiencing this?

Hi, Mike.

You're not alone. I can't get the converter to work in PPT 2003 here,
either. It won't let me open PPTX files at all -- I just get error messages.

As for saving from 2007 into 97-2003/PPT format, we saw a report here last
week of someone experiencing your same issue. The PPT file created in 2007
opens in 2007, but not in 2003. I tested the 2007 PPT file here in 2003, and
I see the same behavior.

Opening that sample PPT file in 2007 and trying to resave it as a 97-2003
file just gives me error messages, though. Good news is, I was eventually
taken to an MS page that said this issue (whatever it is) has been fixed in
later beta builds. (I have Beta 2 here.) I experimented to isolate the
problem slide, and I finally narrowed it down to some lines that look like
charts. I don't know why exactly they're causing the problem, though I very
strongly suspect it's got to do with the lines being grouped.

The upshot is, I don't have a good solution for you right now. Only thing I
can suggest is to try to figure out what is causing the problem. Save a copy
of the file, delete 1/2 the slides. Test it in 2003. Repeat until done. :)
If you find it comes down to grouped objects, ungroup them and see if that
doesn't resolve it (because it seems to here).

Thanks for the response...I am excited about the new software but get a
little hasty in wanting to implement it. I am determined to make it work
though. Thanks again.

Good luck with it! (I totally know the feeling.) I'd start by looking at
drawn objects and grouped items....
