The print layout option as a document view no longer works

when i write letters or other documents in word, i like to use the print
layout view - i have just upgraded from office 2003 to 2007, and for some
reason after saving a document, when i reopen it to edit, it opens in normal
view, and i cannot change the view to print layout without opening a new
blank document and cutting and pasting the entire text into the new document.
i've looked through the settings to see if there is some setting i need to
change, but no luck. the microsoft help files are next to useless about this
- can anyone help?

Are you saying if you click the View tab and then click Print Layout your
view isn't changed? Does the Print Layout button appear "pushed in"? If so,
click the Office Button, click Word Options, and in the Display section,
make sure "Show white space between pages..." is selected.
