The Ribbon UI and "auto-hide" .!

Hi there,
I was just wondering whether it was possible to add a functionality to the
Microsoft office program whereby the ribbon user interface would “auto-hideâ€
after a certain period of inactivity (i.e. after not using the commands on
the ribbon for a particular period of time, say 5 seconds or so)? This is
particularly useful for people who use laptops with small screen sizes and
also need to compare a couple of Microsoft word documents side by side
vertically for instance. This is particularly useful since they won’t be
using most, if not all, the features on the ribbon UI during that time.
Best Regards.

Yes I agree,
Microsoft please find a solution to hide the ribbon. Once double clicked and
hidden, after you use the Alt + letter to show a ribbon, it should revert
(but does not) back to its previous state, i.e. hidden.

I understand it take time to learn new key strokes etc but this is a simple
screen real-estate issue.

Cheers

They found a solution. It will be included in B2TR. There is no known
ETA for B2TR and it isn't known whether it will be publically available
or not.

I installed the TR2 package. I have no ribbon. In fact I not sure I saw a
ribbon in the earlier version. The trick now is how do you turn it on!..

Do you have an Office button in the top left corner? Is this only an
issue with Word or with other programs too?

This is an old message but it describes my issue exactly. I don't have the
ribbon and I don't have the windows office button in the top left. This is
only in Outlook. I have it in Excel. I can't figure out how to turn it on in
Outlook. I'm running 2007 but the UI is exactly the same as 2003.

Hi Kim,

When in Outlook 2007 you go into the 'new mail' (compose screen) that part of Outlook 2007 has the Ribbon.
