The selected project(s) could not be opened in Project when opening multiple projects

I am getting the error "The selected project(s) could not be opened in Project" when I select multiple projects in Project Center, and press Open. I can open each project individually ok, but cannot open multiple projects. We are using Project Server 2003 with SP2a and MSP Professional 2003 with SP2.

Additional Information...
I am testing as an Administrator; I am the project manager of the
projects; the URLs are the exact same in MSP & PWA; I have set the
connection state in MSP to Automatic and to Manual; I have republished
the projects; I close MSP before selecting the Open button in Project
Center page of PWA; I've tried with an assortment of other projects;
I've confirmed the projects are not checked out; just for giggles I
enabled "Allow master projects to be saved to MS Server" on Server
Configuration page in PWA; each time I test opening the projects, I
make sure that MSP is closed. I got it to work once today, but don't
remember which projects I tested and have not been able to reproduce
successfully a second time; the projects I am trying to open were
newly created, saved and published within Project Server; I have not
used PSCLEANER tool or any tool on the projects I am testing.

Any other suggestions?
