A new workbook, called 'Workbook', has started opening behind every existing workbook i open. Didn't used to. How stop now? The "Workbook" template, without extension, is located in < / Applications / Microsoft Office 2004 / Office / Startup / Excel >.

Sounds like the 'Workbook' file in the startup folder was saved as a
regular XL file rather than a template.
