"There is not enough memory or disk space to update the display"

I am running Windows Xp and Office XP on a Toshiba
portable (Celeron @ 1.10 GHz, 240 MB RAM)The machine runs
very well, but I get the above message very frequently
when working on Outlook with Word as e-mail editor.
When this happens, the contents of any open message gets
distorted and i have to close all of them, and shut down
WinWord.exe from the task manager, otherwise Outlook
won't continue displaying messages correctly.
I have increased virtual memory and reduced hardware
acceleration level on the display adapter's properties,
to no avail. I even reformatted the computer recently and
reinstalled everything, so it seems to be a memory
handling conflict somewhere between Word, Windows XP and
the computer. Any ideas?

WordMail (using Word as the email editor) has been badly bugged since its
inception. It has been fixed in Office 2003, but for all previous version
the advice is don't use it.
