There isn't enough space or memory error

When I tried to change the data rype of a column that doesn't have value in
it yet from number to text in a table that contains about 400,000 records,
Access displays an error message saying that There isn't enough spacfe or
memory.

How should I solve this problem?

Create a new column with the properties you want. Delete the old column.
