THIS DOCUMENT COULD NOT BE REGISTERED ERROR IN WORD

R

Rob McConeghy

when opening a new empty document or any existing document in WORD (2003)
I now always receive the error message :
"This document could not be registered. It will not be possible to create
links from other documents to this document"

Other than this annoying message, there does not appear to be any other
effect.
This message only recently started appearing.

I don't know what the message means, I could find no reference in the Office
help site to this message, nor any reference to "registering a document"
anywhere in the Word help.

I have tried running regsvr32 for old32.dll - no effect on the problem.

we also tried completely uninstalling MS Office 2003 and reinstalling it -
also no help.

Another recent problem of much more significance is that I now am unable to
use
MS Access at all, whenever I attempt to open an existing database or just
open the bare program I always get the error message

"A problem occurred while MS Office Access was communicating with the OLE
server or ActiveX control"

It is impossible to regain control of Access, whenever we close the message
box, it just reopens again, and we cannot do anything at all in Access
including closing down the program. We have to kill it in Task manager.

Thanks Terry, I tried that but it also did not have any effect on the problem.

What happens when you start Word in Safe Mode: can you open documents OK
then?

Are you using Norton Anti Virus?

R

Rob McConeghy

No difference in Safe Mode, strange error message still always pops up.
(Note that this in no way hinders my opening or editing of the documents)

I am not using Norton Anti-Virus.

Start > Run... then type "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press OK.
Check the "DCOM Server Process Launcher" in the list .. is it running?

No it was not running (whatever it is). After I started it , I no longer
receive that mystery message in Word and my problem with not being able to
run Access has been solved!
Thanks so much Tony !!!!! :_)))))

Tony:
You gave someone great advice and it seemed to suit me too--with one
problem. Quickly, the background:

A guy asked about the error: "Windows installer service could not be
accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the
Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support persoinnel
for assistance."

You suggested:
Start > Run... then type "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press OK.
Check the "DCOM Server Process Launcher" in the list .. is it running?

Guy replied:
No it was not running (whatever it is). After I started it , I no longer

I have the same problem,. Found that my "DCOM Server Process Launcher" was
not running. Tried starting it. Got this message:
"Could not start the service process launcher on the local computer.
Error 1053 The servvice did not respond to the start or control request in a
timely fashion."

Can you help me, too?

Thanks, Mike D.

Tony's advice worked for me. Suggest anyone else experiencing this problem
try it.

I'm having the same issue but that service is already running on my machine.
Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Strange - I have the same problem on Office 2007 / Vista Business and the
service is running and everything is up to date.
Any ideas?

Frustrated Tech Admin

I am having a similar issue, however, we are running Office 2007 on Windows
XP SP 3. I have updated to Office 2007 SP2. The computer is also on a
network. When a teacher or administrator logs in, Office works fine.
However, when a student logs in, they get the error message, and due to
restrictions can't get to the services application to check and see if the
DCOM service is running. Any suggestions?

Change their permissions. If a teach or admin logs in and it works, there
cannot be anything wrong with Word. So it has to be students' accounts that
are incorrectly set up.

In the folder(s) that contains normal.dotm, the workgroup template folder
and the folder where their documents are stored, Word MUST have FULL
permissions so that it can create and delete files it needs to work. It also
needs full access to the associate Roaming profile folder.

after I start the "DCOM server" there still have this issue.
then I start the service "Microsoft?Forms DLL", then the error message
disappear.

I also had the same problem on starting a Word 2003 doc. I did the Start >
Run... then type "services.msc" (without the quotes) and pressed OK, and
Checked the "DCOM Server Process Launcher" in the list. It was on Automatic,
but not started! I started it manually, and the prob went away. Query - why
if this is on 'Automatic', it didn't start automatically? I will eventually
re-boot an re-try, but in the mean time - Many thanks to Tony for his fix.

Sometimes an automatic-start service does start, but some error causes it to
stop. If that happened on your system, you may be able to find an
explanation in the Windows event log.

At Start > Run, enter eventvwr and click OK. Select the System section of
the log and look for errors -- they're easy to see with the x-in-red-circle
icon, or you can click View > Filter and check only the Error event type.
Double-click any entry to see details about it. The descriptions may look
like gobbledegook, but if there's an error number or other unique
information, you can search for it on Google or Bing.

I get the same, but I can no lonhger save files. When I let it re-load or
whetever it wants to do, I still can't save files or even cuat/copy and
paste. How do I get rid of this Vita/2007 abortion and get back to XP Pro
that never gave me any problems and did exactly waht I needed it to do? This
rubbish came on my new laptp and I can't get rid of it, and now can't even
save my files!

That's a totally different problem. Try...

That's a symptom of a Word Data Key corruption - usually because Word has
been running when updates are installed.

Run Regedit and expand by double-clicking to the key below. With DATA
selected, press DELETE. Word will automatically recreate a new key when it
is restarted.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data

Symptoms of Data Key corruption include:

• The mouse does not work when you use Word.
• You cannot open a Word document from the Search window in Windows
Vista.
• You cannot open a Word document from Windows Desktop Search.
• Word crashes when you try to start or exit Word.
• Word crashes when you open the Open dialog box.
• Word crashes when you save a document.
• Word crashes when you close a document.

If you feel uncomfortable editing the registry yourself, Microsoft have a
fix that will do this for you.

"This document could not be registered. It will not be possible to create

I am getting this same problem using Office 2007 on Vista.. DCOM Server
Process Launcher is running, and none of the above suggestions helps. It is
obviously a problem with Microsoft since it happens with all OS and versions
of Word.

Once mS runs the Configuration process it works for a while and then
regeresses - around once an hour, and is getting irritating to the extent
that I even tried OpenOffice, but that doesn't offer me all the functionality
i need (although it works without this problem).
