THIS MODIFICATION IS NOT ALLOWED BECAUSE THE DOCUMENT IS LOCKED?

ON Word, I cannot enter any text. On the bottom of the screen I get the
message "this modification is not allowed because the document is locked".

What do I have to do to unlock it? I have not set a lock to prevent new
documents to be created.

If this is a trial version that has expired, you'll have to convert it
to a fully licensed version. See
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=831023 "How to convert a
Office 2003 Trial Edition to a Full Retail Edition" and
http://www.microsoft.com/office/trial/convert.mspx "How to
Convert Microsoft Office System Trial Product to a Full Version"

If it is a retail version (including one bundled with your computer
hardware), it has to be activated. In the Help menu, click Activate
Product and see what it says.

If neither of those situations applies, see
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/LockedFiles.htm.
