this selection is locked

this modification is not allowed because the selection is locked keeps coming
up when i go to write in microsoft word, it wont let me click anything at all
in the ribbon or save anything, a 6 month year old laptop and word came
already on it

to repost on a newsgroup dedicated to Word.

that being said, the symptom suggest that Word hasn't been "activated".
