Could someone please explain to a FP newbie what the thumbs.db files that FP
creates are for.

FP never creates thumbs.db, and will have problems publishing it - delete it
You create it by browsing your FP disc based web w/ Windows Explorer if you have the always create thumbnails option turned on

not tried it. Just take a look.
