Time Collection and Migration of Existing Data into 2003

Dan

We have been collecting all the project information on a
stand-alone basis using Project Professional 2000. This
included information regarding actual hours per day.

Currently we are migrating all this information into
Project Server 2003. We will be collecting time (actual
hours per day) using the web access.

I have two questions:

i) When I import the project into 2003, I want to keep
the actuals and enable the time collecting feature. After
importing the project into server 2003, I get the
following message. "The actual work in "project
file.mpp" may be out of synch with actual work updated
from timesheets.
Do you want to synch with protected actuals when you save
this project?"

I do not want to synch with actuals from time sheets at
the time of publishing. They have no information as all
of them are blank. I would like to keep the hours worked
information from project at the time of publishing and
then going forward, I would like to collect it from Web
Access. How do I do this.

ii) Whenever I save the project or approve the submitted
time from individuals, I get the following error message.
Message Type : Publish New and Changed Assignments
" The manager cannot create the resource account
(0x8C040017)

Could you please let me know how to fix this error.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dan

While you are importing projects with actuals into Project Server 2003, your
Project Server administrator must disable the Managed Time Periods feature.
This is causing the "synch with protected actuals" warning and will prevent
you from importing historical actuals into Project Server.

Concerning the Spooler error message, this is caused by the presence of
local (non-enterprise) resources in your project plans. To eliminate this
problem, complete the following steps:

1. Open each offending project in Microsoft Project Professional
2. Apply the Resource Sheet view
3. Double-click the name of each local resource (indicated by the local
resource indicator in the Indicators column)
4. Change the Workgroup value to None and click OK
5. Apply the Gantt Chart view and save the project

Hope this helps.

Dale,
Thanks for the message. Spooler error got fixed now.

But regarding the "synch error", the problem still
remains. By disabling the "Managed Time Periods" feature,
we can import all the actuals data into the project
server. But our goal is to enable time collection using
managed time periods after keeping the actuals from
Professional at the time of import.

I did the following and this did not work.
i) Disable Managed Time Period feature at the server.
ii) Import the project (project actuals get imported and
stored)
iii) Enable Manage Time Period feature at server.
iv) Publish the project
v) Gather actuals from resources using web access.

When the project was saved, all the previous actuals were
moved to ETC column and only the current hours entered
from web access were shown as actuals.

Thank you very much for your help.

Regards,
Dan

Turn off managed time periods, import a project with actuals, then republish
the assignments using Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments. This
will push your historical actuals onto each user's timesheet and resolve
your ETC problem. Hope this helps.

Oops! I forgot to add then when you click Collaborate - Publish - Republish
Assignments, you must select the "Overwrite actual work entered by
resources" option and then click OK. Doing so will "push" the historic
actuals to each user's timesheet in PWA. Hope this clarification helps.
