timeout sending mail

hello,

i have a mail server that checks if the sender is listed as
spam host and does a dns lookup. this all together causes
outlook to timeout sending the mail althoutgh the internet
connection is not slow.
i tried to set the timeout in the advanced options of the
email-account but it does not help and "send now" fails
after 2 or 3 seconds.
do you have any suggestion?
