Timephased data

Kevin W

Hi,
I want to automate the entry of actual cost data from the
Accounts Dept. This is available monthly (along with
staff id and project id). I can use the TimeScaleData
method to obtain the sort of information I need
(assignments with work by day), but how do I include the
Actual Cost data and then write it back ??

TIA,
Kevin

Kevin you talk of automating the process, but I do not see
where the automation piece of your question is. What do
you mean by automate? I have created an electronic bi-
directional link between MS Project and our accounting
system and I consider that to be "automated". What are you
trying to achieve?

I am not sure what you mean by TimeScaleData method so can
I assume you mean time-phased data like in a task usage
view or resource usage view? If not, please explain.
If my assumption is correct, is that where you want to
enter the actual costs?

Lets assume that we are talking about a single project
right now: Do you have a labor code (task ID) for each
task in the accounting system that matches an MS Project
task unique ID? You only indicate that you have a project
ID and a staff ID from accounting.

If the task unique ID in MS Project and the labor code in
accounting do not match, do you at least have the same
tasks in each system?

What do you mean by "write it back"?

Please be more specific and I'm sure you'll get some good
help.

Also, what is your accounting system software?

Are you using 2003?
Here are some features in 2003 that might help you.

A timesheet feature captures time (actuals) and enables
third-party General Ledger systems to retrieve actuals and
update a financials database.
Supports third-party time and expense reporting systems
and synchronization of actuals from these systems to
Project Server 2003 and Project Professional 2003.

I recommend an upgrade.
