can I have a running timer in a form field? I would like to have a record of
downtime with out human error and guessing the accounts of time

Not in a "form field", no, but you can set a Form's Timer property; or record
the current time in some appropriate form event.

Since you don't say what your form is doing or what you want to time, it's a
bit hard to be specific... but to directly answer your question, "Yes with
reservations".
