Timescales over-ruling me

PJ2003. Please pardon me if this is really obvious, but I haven't found a way
through it yet and would be grateful for some advice.

I can adjust the three tiers of time scale on a Gantt chart without problem,
but then I try to view it in different ways to take a copy of the image. I'd
like it to accept the settings and zoom in or out keeping those settings.
I may have set the top tier to numbered Years, but it morphs to unnumbered
Half-Years. The second tier shows individual Quarters to start with but
changes to double ones. Same for third tier months that morph into various
numbers of weeks.

While we're at it, I ticked the box to work in Financial Years, but it does
not change Q1 2009 into Q4 2008/09. What should I have expected?

Hi Jonathan,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

The 3 tiers will re-adjust to your requirements every time you change the
zoom, that's the way it works. If you wish to return frequently to a
particular level, create a new view with that level selected and invoke that
view when you want it. Another way is to record a macro setting it up and
then a tool button to run it.

In Tools/Options.../Calendar tab, did you select the month that the fiscal
year is to begin?

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Hi Mike. Thank you for your fast response. The Fiscal Year thing, that's now
fixed and I've learned another bit.

As for the timescale, it still puzzles me somewhat although I appreciate
that the app cannot know how far I will zoom in or out on my next whim, but
I'd sure like it at least to try to keep to my settings. But I will try both
view ideas and I'm sure all will be well.

Thanks again
