Timesheet and My Tasks out-of-sync

Michael Brown

We may have stumbled upon a potential problem (issue? bug??) in 2007. A plan
is published along with assignments. A resource constructs his/her
timesheet. Prior to submission or task update, the plan changes (project
manager removes a particular task/assignment). Because the timesheet was
created at a moment in time, and is not PHYSICALLY tied to the plan through
primary/foreign key cascanding relationships, when the resource attempts to
import their timesheet data and submit it, they can run into a problem
because the task and associated time no longer exists in the plan. Anyone
else come across this one????

Way back when we first started writing our Project Server 2007 book for
project managers, I learned the hard way that the list of tasks on the My
Timesheet page are "static and not automatic." By this I mean that if the
PM adds a new task in a project plan that occurs during the current My
Timesheet period, the new task does not automatically appear on the
timesheet. And if the PM deletes a task from the project plan the task is
not removed automatically from the timesheet.

Technically, this is not a bug, but rather, a serious design flaw. So, yes,
I have definitely run across this and we document this in our book. By the
way, if you don't have this book, it is avaiable at Amazom or at:

http://www.projectserverbooks.com

Hope this helps.
