Timesheet approval via PWA

Bunmi

Hi all,

I must be missing something, just don't know what it is.
I'm trying to implement/test the Timesheet approval
process in PWA. I see in the help that I should see two
links, one for "Approve resource timesheet" and another
for "View timesheet summary". For some reason I don't
see those on the Resources page...I am logged in as a
Project Manager that is a member of ALL groups, so I
assume I have all power...
Any ideas?

thanks all!

The timesheet approval permissions usually reside with the My Direct Reports
category in PWA. The My Direct Reports category assumes that you have built
your company's "org chart" in the RBS field and that every resource in the
Enterprise Resource Pool has an RBS value indicating where they are in the
company's "org chart." The RBS field value for each resource indicates "who
reports to whom" in your organization. The My Direct Reports category
"reads" the RBS field values and determines who reports directly to you, and
therefore, whose timesheets you will be allowed to approve. Are you using
the RBS field as I have described? Let me know.

No, I do not use the RBS value...Didn't know anything of
it. So how can I proceed? All resources report to me.

thank you.

You need to open the Enterprise Global and build an RBS field that looks
something like this:

Manager
Team Member

Two outline levels should take care of your situation, given the fact
everyone reports to you. Save and close the Enterprise Global, then exit
Microsoft Project entirely. Log back into Microsoft Project again for the
RBS changes to take place, then open the Enterprise Resource Pool.
Temporarily insert the RBS field in the Resource Sheet view. Set your RBS
value to Manager and the RBS value for everyone else to Team Member. Save
and close the Enterprise Resource Pool.

You should now be able to use the Timesheet Approval system. Also, are you
using Managed Time Periods? I forgot to mention that you must be using
Managed Time Periods as well in order to approve timesheets for resources.
To set up Managed Time Periods, log into PWA with administrator permissions,
click Admin and then click Customize Microsoft Project Web Access. Set up
your managed time periods on the Tracking Settings page.

As you can see, there is more setup to this than you imagined. Hope this
helps.
