Timesheet for resource without access to PWA : Project Server 2007

Alain

Hello,

I need to define Resources (people working in the company, but don't have
access to computer) and I want that the project manager (who has access to
PWA of course) will enter their working hours in their timesheet.
What is the best way to define these resources : work resource generic or
work resource (no logon on the server) ?
How can the project manager fill the timesheet for these people ? I try to
use the function Create surrogate timesheet, but I can only choose a resource
that has an logon on the server ?

Thanks.

Hi Alain,

There are several ways you are able to do this, but I would assume the
easiert way is to give your PM's access to Project Professional and allow
them to directly enter the work in the Project Plan. The big advantage is
that you can use either generic or local resources.

If you want to give your PM the ability to update the time in Project Web
Access, it is required to have a "real" global resource ( either via Project
SErver access or Windows authentification). The problem is licensing, you
will need to have a CAL licence for each real resource. ( and no you cannot
enter time in Project Web Access for Generic or local resources). Should you
still decide go this way you can then let the PM update the time under
"Resources" and "Adjust Actuals" within PWA
I hope this helps

You will need to go to your Administrator and ask for the permission to have
"adjust actual" rights.
Hope this helps

I am an admin, I have checked all permissions in both security templates and
all categories. All I get is "Resource Center" and "Status Reports". I do not
see an "Adjust Actuals" permission. Where should it be located?

Got it, it's renamed to adjust timesheets. Now, if I need to bring that time
from their timesheets to the project plan, without logging it as the user,
can a PM do it for them? How? From what I can see, a PM can create surrogate
timesheets for users that can't log in, but I need the PM to also be able to
pull this time from the surrogate timesheets into the project plan and update
the plan.

we are currently evaluating a setup where our project managers enter time for
local resources in their my tasks view, as if it were their own tasks...

this is done by changing the "assignment owner" in project professional
and/or changing the default assignment owner to the responsible project
manager in the resource details.

then we still need to create the surrogate timesheets for these resources,
for which we might want to use a custom webpart that does batch timesheet
creation for all local resources...

hope this helps and you might wanna give it a try.
