Thank you - one more question - the purpose of this is to add a blank slide
that does not take on the master slide appearance - I have inserted a new
master slide but now it is not connected to the original so it doesn't show
up when I close Master View

From Normal View go to Format > Design Template. Your blank slide master should
show up in the Task Pane at the right under the heading "Used in This
Presentation".

I was wondering why you would want to add a blank slide before your title
master. Is it a way of avoiding people to see your presentation before you
start talking? If that is the case, all you have to do is hit "W" and your
screen will go white. When you are ready to start, hit "W" again and your slide
will show up.
