Hi,
how can I apply a title master layout to a particular slide in a
presentation (a slide that is in the middle of the presentation, rather than
the first slide).

Sure. Select the slide in the thumbnail pane on the left of the screen,
choose Format | Slide Layout, and click the Title Slide layout.
