Titles of Pages in Website Created in Publisher 2003

Hi Everyone:

I have an issue and I wonder if anyone has encountered and sucessfully
resolve the problem.

I am creating a 10-page website using Publisher 2003. Whatever title I give
to a page is automatically repeated on all of the website pages. I have used
the website option to title each page individually and also named each by
right-clicking the page's number tab at the bottom of the publication. Has
anyone encountered this same problem and, if so, how did you correct it?

I've only seen a page title(s) once and that was an obvious case of pub file
corruption. The fact that you stated

"also named each by right-clicking the page's number tab at the bottom of
the publication"

has me concerned about your file as that is not the correct manner to set
the page title option. That function is done in the web site page title
dialog.

go - -

I want to create the same "Title Block w/navigation bar" on every webpage of
a 10 - 25 page website - - and I want these to "non-scroll" (as we are able
to do in Excel) - - Any hints?
Also - - where can I put a sound file (and have it stream) to provide a
single soundtrack as a viewer moves through all the pages - - I have been
adding a track for each page - - and, it changes every time a page is turned.
Can you tell me how to add "Page __ of ___" to webpages??

I am not David Bartosik, but I will offer an opinion.

It sounds like you want to uses frames, and there is no built in support for
that in Publisher. However using iframes you can approach your desired
results along with the insert html code fragment tool. This has come up in
several threads in the last month or so, so I will not bother repeating them
here. Just read some of the most recent threads from this search:

I would also suggest that you Google the subject and the problems associated
with using frames, before you decide to use them. Personally, I think that
using iframes in a limited capacity can be a good thing, but also that it
would be a mistake to try to frame an entire Publisher site. Don't expect
the navbar wizard in Publisher to function correctly in a framed site, nor
the search engine robots to be able to properly index your site or the
content.

As per the musac, I can't help you there, except to say that putting musac
on your site is one of the quickest way to alienate people and drive them
away from your site, but each to their own.

I must have read the question differently. I thought she meant she
wanted something like a Master Page item - stuff that would appear on
every page in the same place. From reading this NG, it appears Pub
doesn't really like MPs, but does it do a Paste in the Same Place type
of thing? That would accomplish the same thing, though a change in one
page won't be reflected in all the pages.

The OP asked
This is a DTP option that has no bearing on web publishing. Just add a
page, put what you want on it, and create a link to it. Whether it is
the second or last page in a site structure will not make any difference.

Mike,

Could be. I interpreted the "non-scroll" comment, as a framing goal.

If the OP wants to just duplicate the "Title Block w/navigation bar" on
every every page, there are several ways. The easiest is to get the page the
way you want, and then insert a new page, and duplicate everything on the
first page, plus add a navbar link automatically through the navbar wizard.
Add as many pages as you want.

Or as you suggested, if you are editing multiple existing pages, you can
copy a page element and paste in the same place on all the pages.

Using the master page in a web page in Publisher produces unpredictable
results, and probably should be discouraged. Unfortunately, it doesn't work
as well in this capacity as some other programs ;-)
