Good question! I have a solution you might be able to use. Select the cells you want to apply the conditional formatting on. Go to the Home tab and click Conditional Formatting. From the dialog choose new rule. From the next dialog choose the third option: Format only Top or bottom ranked values. By default this is set to Top 10. Change this value to 1. Choose the formatting you like (green fill with dark green font) and click ok. Choose apply and see how your highest value will be formatted. Change another value to be the highest and see how that cell will be colored accordingly. You can also use this technique for the lowest value. In that case choose Bottom instead of Top and choose different colors.

Hope this helps
