TOC changes state when word document opened from Outlook

Office 2003 Professional. Windows XP SP2.

Scenario: Create a document in word. Add a TOC which auto uodates form the
relvant sections - headers etc. Save the dosucment to the local HDD. Use the
send by email option in Word to send the document to a colleauge or even
yourself. Go to outlook, open the email, open the word document directly from
the email. The TOC get reset so that all fields read page number one. Close
word, go bakc to the email, choose save to save the attachment, go to the
saved attachment, open in word, the TOC appears correct.

This is a real issue for us as we send lots of documents around in word
format to client etc, and as we can not force them to save them first before
opening them, its making our life hell, as out work looks really poor when
the TOC just shows page 1 for everything.
