TOC - duplications

I have a large document with a TOC (3 levels), each
chapter I have copied the toc and deleted the items that
do not pertain to the document. I have also erased the
bookmarks and tried to update the overall toc. Each time
I get a few chapter that repeat heading. Anyone got any
ideas. Help please.

I don't understand what you are trying to do here - is this a single
document or one file per chapter? How are you building the TOC (using
styles, levels or TC fields?) Are you trying to produce one overall TOC and
also TOCs for each chapter containing only the headings within the chapter?

You're going about this the wrong way. To create a TOC for a specific
chapter, you need to bookmark the chapter and then create a TOC with that

Master document with sub docs for each chapter. The TOC
has been set up in styles, levels as 3 levels. Each
chapter has its own TOC and the master needs the overall
toc. The master is duplicating a few chapters only, and
only on the heading 2 level.
