TOC in XP page numbers

Joseph

When I create a TOC in Word XP, the page numbers no
longer link to the actual pages. I have tried using the
hyperlink option, but that doesn't work either. Does
anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?

It works, but Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, decided to make us hold
the Ctrl key while we click a hyperlink beginning with version 2002/XP. You
can change that option on YOUR PC: Tools-Options, Edit tab. Uncheck "use
Ctrl+Click..."

I am familar with that change. My page numbers are dead
links. They do not respond to any key combination. I have
had some documents that the link worked - by ctrl click -
but it no longer works.

I'm wonderin gif perhaps my Word has a corrupt file and
needs to be reinstalled.

Possibly the TOC has been unlinked? When you press Alt+F9, do you see a
field code?

After I create the TOC it is inserted in the form of a
Field Code. Then when I convert the filed code to an
actual table, the page numbers are not linked to the page.

What do you mean by "convert the field code to an actual table"? It sounds
to be as if you're using the wrong shortcut. Alt+F9 or Shift+F9 would toggle
the display from field code to field result. If perhaps you're pressing
Ctrl+Shift+F9 instead, then you are unlinking the field, at which point it
is just plain text, no longer hyperlinked and not updateable, either.

That would be th eproblem then. I thought I read
somewhere that it was Ctrl+Shift+F9 to toggle.

Thank you.
