TOC style underline hidden when 2 TOC lines of same style are toge

My TOC1 style has a lower border. This nicely separates chapter main titles
from the subsections in the TOC.

However, I have a few appendices that have no subsections, so three TOC1
style lines appear together.

Only the last one shows the lower border. How can I make the lower border
appear when two TOC1 style lines appear together?

Thanks,

Jessica

Give the paragraph an Inside Horizontal border as well as a Bottom border.

Hi, Suzanne. I can't seem to be able to do this. When I try to update the
style, the choices under Format Borders only give me the diagram option, not
the toolbar choice. The diagram only lets me do the four outside borders.

The "show toolbar" button is grayed out.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jessica

You have to select more than one paragraph in order to have the inside
border choice.

Ok, that works fine to add the border once the TOC is generated.

What I can't find is a way to add an internal horizontal border to the style
specification. It would be nice not to have to manually amend the TOC each
time I re-generate it.

Thanks for your help, Suzanne.

When two or more paragraphs in a style is selected, the option will be
available via the Modify Style dialog box too. Just click the Format
button, and then click Border. You can add the internal horizontal
border by clicking in the Preview picture.

Because TOC styles by default update automatically, any formatting applied
to any paragraph(s) in a given TOC style should be made to the style itself
in the given dialog. It will still be necessary to go to Modify Style and
check the "Add to template" box if it is desired to change the style in the
template itself.

Yes, I am familiar with the update-style-in-the-template stuff.

The odd thing is that when I try to modify the style (even when I have two
instances of text in that style selected) I do NOT have all the border
choices. I only have top, bottom, left and right. The "show toolbar" button
is greyed out. The only buttons visible are for top and bottom.

Something seems odd here, possibly in my copy of Word.
