TOC Style

In Word 2000 I have inserted a TOC, the paragraph style for 2nd level items
is correctly TOC 2 (with tabstops at .5" 6.49" as defined in the style.)

However a directly formatted tab appears at 1.2" (Shift+F1 shows that there
is a directly formatted tab present.)

The location where I inserted the TOC is Normal and has no direct
formatting.


Where is the 1.2" tab coming from? How can I make sure it does not come
back each time I update the TOC?

It's often because Word thinks it needs extra space for whatever comes
before the tab - maybe you need a slightly larger tab to allow for the
second level numbers? But have a look at
