In Word 2003 some new documents have the TOC showing heading 1 next to the
page number and is preceded by a dotted leader. Older documents are OK.

Problem looks like this:
CONTENTS
1..............................................INTRODUCTION 12

How do I get it to do this?
1. INTRODUCTION............................................. 12

You probably need to move the hanging indent/tab stop following the number
(or create one if there is none).

The indent positions is exactly the same as in a document that does not have
this problem. I suspect that this has something to do with the formatting of
Heading 1. Sine we upgraded to Word 2003 I have noticed also a number of
additional styles like Heading 1 black bold etc.

Not in the heading--in the TOC style. Also check the setting of the
Compatibility Option for "Don't add automatic tab stop for hanging indent."

Thanks for the tip to look in the TOC style, I discovered that for some
reason the tab setting for TOC1 was set for 16cm. I changed this to 0.7 and
also set alignment to left and now it's fine. But I still have one small
problem and that is that some (3 of the 30) Heading 2 in the TOC has the page
number next to the text instead of being right aligned. What could this be
due to?
