Today() Function & Sharepoint

I have an existing form that has been in use for a while. To this existing
form, I added the Today() function, in order to display and to do some new
calculations based on the current date.

When published, I can't get the Today() function to work for any form that
existed prior to this change. When a user opens an existing form, Today() is
empty. If I click Design and then Preview, I can see Today(). If a new form
is filled out, the Today() function is filled with today's date. However, in
normal use, Today() in any pre-existing form does not work

I have tried varying from element to expression and other tricks to get
Today() to work, but it does not. If anyone can help, it would be
appreciated!! Thanks.

I am using Infopath 2003 in Windows XP

You are trying to populate a new field with old data where that field did not
exist - thus no data is available to populate it with. This also holds true
if you rename a field somewhere along the way. New data will contain the new
field name, but since that new name did not exist when the xml was created
for the old form - and now the old name no longer exists, there is no place
for the data to go and thus the field would be empty.
