I am getting Error Message 4.5.3 "Too many recipients" when simply trying to reply to an email with 15 email addresses on it. i get the same error message on it when I try to create a list with more than 5 or so address. This never used to happen. I used to be able to create fairly large distribution lists.

Any insights?

Thanks,

That is an error message generated by your provider, not Entourage. You
should talk to them as 5 or even 15 recipients is excessively
restrictive.

You should also confirm that you are using the correct SMTP server and
authentication settings, it's possible the server you are using is not
the one you should be.

Webmaster/Hosting site says its not there restriction. Cox.net (my provider) says they don't support that issue because I'm not using a cox.net email address. Apple says they don't support Entourage. And you're telling me it isn't Microsoft, its any of the above.

I have the correct SMTP server and settings because I can't send or receieve email with any other settings.

I still have the issue, any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Ian

Whose outgoing SMTP server are you using? What email address are you
using?

If you're using Cox's SMTP server, you need to either push harder or
find a peer support forum. Don't let them brush you off.

Outgoing SMTP server is hafnerrealty.com
Override default SMTP port is 587 (I believe is Cox)
email address is (e-mail address removed)

I have a cox technician coming out tomorrow. They thought it could be old wiring or modem. Neither of which makes sense.

This just started happening when I switched my hafnerrealty.com hosting from verio over to my friend's called northstar hosting.

Thanks for all your help!

You can always choose to use your ISP as the SMTP rather than the email
account. Try using Cox SMTP and not hafnerrealty.com info.

If you think about it this way. You are using Cox for conduit to send email.
They can allow you to send using other SMTP or you can use their's for
sending. Some ISPs will allow you to use relay, but others will not. This is
to try and stop spam.

Diane,

Thanks for your help. i will try using cox.

I am to assume from your answer that it must be my email account. For instance, I just switched website hosting accounts to a new provider.

Thanks again,
Ian

I am to assume from your answer that it must be my email account. For
instance, I just switched website hosting accounts to a new provider.

For example, Comcast is my ISP. I have an email account on a site hosted
with pair.com. When I enter my pair.com account, I enter the "Receiving"
portion with my pair.com info. I can select to use either pair.com for
"Sending" or I can use Comcast SMTP for sending.

relay.pair.com
smtp.comcast.net

If I go to pair's site they tell me my options for using a pair email with
my ISP. Another account I have uses mail.mvps.org for sending. So you can
see it varies. Find out what Cox uses for SMTP and that should always work
where if you use the website account's info, you must check to see what they
require.

FWIW, I was just reading about Cox service and "suck" was used to describe
their service. YMMV
