Toolbar buttons

I am needing to modify a toolbar button. I am familiar with the process to
accomplish this, however this option (and several others) are grayed out on
the menu. Obvious question, how do I remove the gray? Thank you.

Grayed out - means this feature is not available at this time.
Eg. If you are editing a cell, you can't use the grid tool

I don't think there is a way to override this behavior.
What exactly are you trying to do?
Which tools are you using? Maybe there is a workaround.
