toolbar causes word to freeze

Hi everyone,

Yesterday (and several times since yesterday) I have tried to call up the drawing toolbar. That has caused word to freeze up, the only thing I get is the spinning wheel.

I tried fixing the permissions. Re-starting the computer. Re-installing the whole Office suite and nothing.

The only new thing installed in the computer is iLife 09. I installed the night before this behavior started.

Any ideas on what's going on?

Thank you!

You've posted to the PowerPoint group :), but in the meantime...

Go to View> Customize Toolbars & Menus. On the Toolbars page click the NAME
of the Drawing Toolbar then click the Reset button. After you OK out of the
dialog restart Word. If the problem isn't corrected post to the Word group
with all particulars including exact update level of Office & OS X.

I have the exact same problem.

Right click to choose Drawing toolbar, I get the spinning beachball.

I tried resetting the toolbar, no change.

All,

I found a fix:

Delete or rename this file: ~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.Word.plist

When you restart Word, the drawing bar works again.

The downside, you lose your Word preferences.

Bill.

Hi Bill -

Glad you were resourceful enough to find a "next step" which the OP of the
thread apparently didn't need :) You also can now understand why trashing
the Preferences typically is not the preferred first step when something of
that nature occurs.
