My button is for art gallery. I have a word document
that I want to add art gallery to. It is grayed out and
even if I delete the button and add it again, it is still
gray.

Have you tried resetting the toolbar?
Tools|Customize - click the Toolbar tab, highlight the Drawing toolbar and
click Reset.
