Toolbars look different every time I open Word

Perhaps you have Adobe Acrobat or some other software set to add
features to your Toolbar?

Yes I do have Adobe installed... Would this make my toolsbar shift
everytime???

It shoudln't.
In fact, office sometimes forgets all the changes in the toolbars and
switches to default (ar at least here it does). I tried to find a file that
might be write protected but couldn't. It usually only does so when, on
cloding, there was a problem with custom.dic and word subsequently crashes
(happens about every 10th time or so).

Word shouldn't 'forget' toolbar changes and switch to the defaults. If
you are encountering this behavior then you also have a problem you
should investigate. :)

Now, if this occurs after you also encounter a crash then this is
expected behavior. Of course, the crash isn't expected but the loss of
customizations is since those are only written when you exit Word and
do not encounter a crash. Or depending on the customization, if you
force a save to Normal.dot before closing. Customizations stored in
the Registry can not be manually saved - these are saved when you exit
Word.

If you are encountering Word crashing then if you haven't already done
so, create a new post and provide us the details such as the exact
error message, the version of Word you are using and the patches you
have installed.

It could depending on what you mean by 'change position'. Do you mean
you've moved a toolbar and upon restarting Word they are moved back?

If that's the case and you do have Adobe installed then it is know to
discard changes when you exit Word. In their 'infinite wisdom', in
order to workaround the issue of modifying Normal.dot each time you
exit Word they elected to discard all customizations so users wouldn't
encounter the issue.

You can hold Shift, then open the File menu and select "Save All" to
force a save to Normal.dot prior to exiting Word or remove the Adobe
add-in.

If version 7.0, get Updates under the help menu in Adobe. That should
fix some of the annoyances
