Toolbars - Word 2007 Beta

I understand the premise behind an adaptive set of tools that provides only
the selections needed for a particular screen or action, however, the beta
should include the ability to add or adjust those tools as necessary.

Example: When I highlighted a sentence in Word 2007, I received a mini
pop-up box that had a few selections, but did not include the underline
feature. I had to hunt this option down which took more time than the old
2003 version that was always where I wanted it. I would have been nice to
have that selection added to that mini pop-up box, or to allow the user to
add that to the box.

Or, the beta could have a mini AI that notices selections not included in
the usual pop-up box and when located and executed, that selection would
automatically be added.

Although the beta screen looks more tidy, if the functionality is not easily
accessable, available or expected, the product will become like the Tucker
automobile. While more advanced, people were not willing to use it

Provide the vision in a product that allows a clean compact working area,
but allow the user to adapt and adjust as necessary to fit their needs. After
all, the product is supposed to be made for the user, not the programmer.

FWIW, the Ctrl+U shortcut still works for underline. We were told that
Underline was omitted from the mini-toolbar because "no one ever uses it."
What this means is that no one *should* be using it. Underlining in typed
material is meant to be a representation of italics in printed material or
to add emphasis to monospaced, single-size type that in printed material
would be boldfaced and/or made larger. Although there are certainly still
uses for the underline (in mathematical sums, for example), it's not
something you should be using that often. If you do need it often, either
use the shortcut (much more efficient when typing, anyway) or add the
command to your QAT.

Hi Pilot,

You can add the underline tool to the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT).
Right click on the QAT and choose the 'customize' choice

The Ribbon is customizable (with a bit of tweaking of some .XML files either manually or with a 3rd party add-in), but other parts
of the User Interface, such as the Minibar are more 'tucked away' the way they are.

This is cool idea. Not sure, with the current philosphy (a place for
everything, and everything in its place - making it easier for Help Desks to
trouble-shoot), whether it will fall on open ears. But still...

You must be kidding right???

Does this mean that my personal desires should not be considered because it
doesn't follow proper sentence structure or edicate?

It's a good thing that my shopping center doesn't eliminate things I would
purchase just because a diet specialist claims it is not good for me. This
sounds more like socialized software!

P.S.
I really dislike shortcuts. I always try to use the GUI.

have told you you can put the button on the QAT, which makes it just as

I think the exclamation may have been in reference to you're saying
underlining should not be used...
