Top Margin Error

AC

Using Word 2003 with all updates.

I have the top and bottom margins set to 2.5cn. However,
when I open a new document the cursor is positioned at the
very top of the page as though no upper margin has been
set. If I select View|Headers & Footers and then simply
cancel this then the cursor jumps to the correct place i.e
2.5cm from the top of the page.

Can anyone offer any advice on how to correct this problem.

Regards and thanks in advance.

Hi AC

It's not a problem, it's a new feature! :)

In Tools > Options > View, check the box for "White space between pages".
This is a bit easier than the alternative, which is to try to position the
cursor just below the ruler so it turns into a pair of rectangles with
little arrows (tooltip says "Show white space") and then click.

Once your pages are ok again, pay attention to the cursor when it's between
pages -- if it turns into a pair of rectangles/arrows (tooltip now says
"Hide white space"), don't click there!

The purpose of this is to let you see more body text without taking up
screen real estate for useless blank space. Unfortunately, MS seems to have
forgotten to tell anybody how the feature works in any way that people might
notice.
