Totalling Cells

Hi.

I have two columns of figures, C3 to C55 and F3 to F55. These run in
infinite date order so I don't want a total in either of these columns.

What I need to do is have both columns added together in a separate cell -
H5 - as entries are made in either of these two columns.

I have tried all I know but can't get the formula.

Can anyone help?

=SUM(C3:C1000,F3:F1000)
