Tough Question for Word 98 on Mac

One of our teacher's was typing up a lesson plan in Word 98 on a Mac. She somehow managed to find a macro that she didn't want. What happens is 3 or four blank lines appear below her typing. It looks like a comment section but we can't seem to shut the darn thing off. Any ideas on what she hit and how to quit it?

The footnote pane also looks very like a comments section--but if it doesn't
have a bar across the top of the pane with a button to Close it, it is
probably neither. The command would be under View, however.

Can you give better detail of what appeared? Did she format her text as
Space After? Have you tried closing and reopening the document, quitting
and restarting the program?
