Track Changes - document header disappears

I am editing a colleague's documents (produced on a Mac) using Track changes. She's using 2008, I'm using 2004, don't know if that makes a difference. When I type in corrections they appear in red as usual but if I have to delete anything the document's header disappears and the view goes from "Page Layout" to "Normal." It only started doing this 4-5 days ago. Also, even though balloons are set to appear, they don't, or show up for a couple of seconds then disappear.

These things happen on all the documents she has sent me (over 50), on my MacBook Pro, but they work fine on the Dell desktop running Vista that I have at school.

I reinstalled Word to see if that would help...no good. Any ideas?

Re-installing never has any effect on a Mac, because the files that get
damaged are not part of the installation, they are user files created when
the application runs for the first time.

So do not try to cure things with a re-install on a Mac: you run the risk of
replacing updated files with old files and making the problems very, very
much worse.

You did not mention which document format you are using? Tracked changes
are a bit of a problem child working between two versions of Mac Word. You
may find it better to work with "Use balloons" turned off altogether.

If you email me one of those (small!) documents, I will try to work out what
is wrong for you.

Sorry: no real answers.
