Tracking changes solution to version 2007 problem

H

Hammar2007

I was having a big problem with Word because while it was letting me save my
Word docs with the tracked changes hidden, *unbeknownst to me* it was showing
them to the recipient when s/he opened the document! So I just posted a
suggestion a while ago that Microsoft should have a dialog box ...

Well, turns out they sort of do. Go to Word options, then Trust Center, then
Trust Center Settings, then Privacy Options, and under Document-specific
settings, check the first item (“Warn…â€).

I tested it and even though it says its document-specific, it carries over
to old and new docs, too. Unfortunately, it queries you for every save, but
for me that’s a small price to pay for controlling when my changes are and
are not revealed.

I hope this is helpful to someone!

This option is turned on by default. I wonder why it was turned off. Did you
upgrade from a previous version? In any event, I agree completely. Answering
a question is a small price to pay to prevent sending out tracked changes in
a document. (Now if I could only convince those who insist they want it
turned off.<g>)

Additionally, the Document-Specific options are global options. I think the
heading is poorly worded. What they are trying to convey they are for
privacy options that apply to documents as opposed to those that apply to
the application, such as Online Help.
