Tracking Project Progress

Hi, can anyone show me a way to be able to show on the gant chart tracking
view or even a report the actual percentage complete for tasks,sub-projects
and the total project against the scheduled baseline percentage complete for
a given date up to the current date in a live project. Whilst the normal
tracking gant view shows the actual percentage complete/progess expressed as
a percentage the baseline is only shown as a bar alongside the actual bar
against the current date. My company expect me to be able to say "for example
we are currently 50% actually complete against a scheduled baseline of 55%
meaning we have slipped 5%" . Even if I try to do this in a report I can only
show a variance in either durations or work expressed in hours but NO
percentage. Am I asking for something that Microsoft Project cant do or do I
need to look somewhere else in the program?

any ideas would be appreciated.

Rooster,

I think that the earned value calculations will give you most of what you
want. Open the Project Help and search for Earned Value to get an
understanding of how it works. If that is not sufficient, you could use a
calculated field to turn things into a percentage, but take a look at EV
first.
