Transfer Distribution List by e-mail from Outlook 2007 to Outlook

K

Ken

1. The DL was created manually on a single independent PC.
2. DL was added to e-mail as an item in 2007
3. DL was sent and received using rich text
4. Message recipient received mail with attachments in the normal attachment
location and NOT the in the e-mail body in 2003
5. The recipient dragged and dropped this attachment into the contact tab
and the distribution list did not appear.
6. An e-mail window did open following the drag drop but no sign of DL
7. With a different DL attempt: following drag drop; only one contact
appeared from the DL and not the list

Any suggestions?

Doesn't sound like the DL was actually attached as an Outlook Item. If it
were, it would not launch a message window. State how the item was attached.
State what happens when you open the attachment and save it.

Hi Russ,

Thanks for responding.
The DL is being attached by opening a new mail and then selecting the drop
down next to the paper clip (attachment symbol) and selecting the "item" menu
option.
When the message is received and I drag and drop it into contacts; a
contacts window opens. The window is untitled with nothing in the name field.
And e-mail data in the large "notes" area on the bottom right of any contact
screen. The E-mail data is "sent....... giving the send date and time" and
"subject:...." giving again the subject line from the original mail that was
sent.... weird.

I must mention that I noticed that despite having word 2003 set as my e-mail
editor I am still getting messages in HTML format. I have checked the
following 2 check boxes: Use Microsoft word to edit e-mail messages and Use
Microsoft word to read Rich text e-mail messages. I am not sure if I should
be doing anything else to get those incoming mails into rich text?

By the way I had him try and drag and drop the DL into the mail with the
same results.

Your message format should be set to RTF when you create the message to
which you attach the DL. Are you doing that? Is the message still being
received as HTML?
Make sure no one is running any email AV scanning when you do this.

Message is set to RTF when creating the message to send the DL and yes the message is still being received as HTML.

Russ, I have done a test in creating a DL and sending it to myself and it
works fine. The people sending it to me use outlook 2007 and I use 2003. Not
sure if that makes a difference but it is not working.

The sender has outlook configured to use Webaccess to send mail. Is this
likely to be an issue?

"Webaccess?"
It's probably the mail server or AV software that's corrupting the
attachment.

Outlook Web Access (web view of your exchange mailbox)? Does the DL show up
as an attachment?

You cannot use drag and drop with OWA,
