Transfer of files from Excel (PC) to Excel (Mac)

Is this a simple, straightforward step, to copy Excel files from a PC
computer to say a CD rom, insert in a Mac with Excel for Mac, and
open? Sorry if this question is infantile, but I am just breaking
into the Mac world from years of PC abuse. Thanks! Any and all tips
would be appreciated.

The short answer is that it should be no problem. I suggest not trying to
open them from the CD, but to drag to the Mac desktop or other folder first.

If the PC files contain macros that were written without consideration of
the Macintosh, then there may be problems. Try it, and let us know what
happens, and what errors you find, if any, and we can assist further.
